Climate Story Lab Pacific 2025

PFF in collaboration with Doc Society have selected eight projects from the Pacific to participate in the inaugural Climate Story Lab Pacific to be held from 11-15 August, 2025 at Pasifika Communities University in Suva, Fiji.

As the first Pacific lab, CSL aims to strengthen Pacific climate storytelling projects and impact campaigns, spur partnerships to mobilise strategic audiences and funding opportunities, and grow confidence in the power of social impact storytelling in the region. Participants will receive impact and pitch training, and will develop their pitching tools and documents with a view to presenting their pitches in Sydney in October.

Teams from Tuvalu, Tahiti, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Guam and the Northern Marianas, and Aotearoa New Zealand have been selected to workshop their stories in collaboration with industry experts as mentors and workshop facilitators.

"Shared Stories, Stronger ties"

In partnership with the Australian High Commission to Papua New Guinea, PFF held the 'Yumi Stap Wantaim' 72 Hr Film Challenge and Festival in Goroka and Port Moresby during the month of June.

Using the theme 'Shared stories, Stronger ties', the film challenge and film festival highlighted the PNG-Australia connection, creating and showcasing five new Papua New Guinean microfilms.

Congratulations to team 1WANTOK from Goroka, taking out first place!

48 Hour Film Challenges

In 2018, Pasifika Film Fest teamed up with Information & Cultural Exchange (I.C.E) along with the Australian Film, Television & Radio School (AFTRS) to bring you the first ever PFF 48 Hour Film Challenge.

The challenge brought together 2 groups of 5 all Pacific film crews, mentored by 3 established Pacific content creators. The challenge resulted in two short films made by all Pacific crews and actors.

Since then, PFF has replicated the 48 hour film challenge model in Salt Lake City, USA and Honiara, Solomon Islands. Looking forward to #PFF48 in 2024!

Pitch Pleez

In 2016 Pasifika Film Fest teamed up with Information & Cultural Exchange to present an outreach activity called Pitch Pleez. The opportunity was for aspiring writers with zero experience to pitch their ideas to Australian screen executives on the last day of the festival. Those who won participated in industry placements and indubator programs.

Since 2016, Pitch Pleez ran again as part of PFF 2020, and included judges from Sundance Film Festival, Screen Australia and Ludo. Participants have come from all over the Pacific, including Tokelau, Fiji, Tonga, Guam, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia. PFF looks forward to bringing this opportunity again in 2024.
