• How do I vote for a film to be Peoples Choice? When voting opens we will let you know on our social media pages (facebook, instagram, twitter) and through our website. This is not yet available as the final program has not been set.

  • When can I buy a ticket? Tickets will go on sale through the Hoyts website approximately a month before opening night.

  • What if I want to volunteer? Pasifika Film Fest is always open to welcoming new members of the team. If you would like to be a part of the team, please send us an email to and let us know what your interests are and why you would like to be a part of the Pasifika Film Fest team.

  • Can I submit my film? Yes you can submit your film via the filmfreeway website here.


Submissions are reviewed and selected by a jury under the following criteria:


  • relevance to eligibility criterias

  • quality of narrative and production value

  • independent nature of the production


Final selection of submitted films will be completed by mid July. Pasifika Film Festival will notify all successful and unsuccessful filmmakers by early August. Successful filmmakers will be given further instruction with regard to the receipt of their film files.
Pasifika Film Fest assumes that the submitting party has cleared the rights for their film to be submitted to the festival. The festival will not be held liable for any issues or lawsuits regarding any films that are entered into the festival.
By entering this festival you are agreeing to have 30 sec – 3 minute excerpt of your film be used for festival promotional purposes only (including web, cinema, TV, DVD). You can opt out of this, but you must contact us in writing.


Films may be submitted via online screener, vimeo link, DVD or thumb-drive
Preview copies of your film must be clearly marked with the submitter's name, film title, country of origin, running time, contact details and tracking number (if applicable). 
Unfortunately, submitted copies will not be returned.


Submissions will be accepted from April 1 2016
Early deadline 11.59pm June 1 2016 AEST ($20)
Regular deadline 11.59pm June 15 2016 AEST ($30)
Late deadline 11.59pm July 1 2016 AEST ($50)
If your submission is sent by mail, it must be post-marked by the closing date, excluding the final deadline which is a ‘last mail’ deadline. Submission fees are non-refundable. All time deadlines are Australian Eastern Standard Time.

The awards for the Pasifika Film Fest 2016 are listed as below. 


Best of the Fest Award

Best overall film of the festival. 


Liklik Piksa (Little Picture) Award
Given to the best short film of the festival. Short films must be no longer than 30 minutes.


Pasifika Warrior Documentary Award

Given in recognition of a documentary's achievement in highlighting a relevant and current issue from the Pacific.


Breakthrough Award

Given to the best film submitted by an emerging filmmaker. The award is open to any key creatives, including writers, directors, producers, art directors, editors and actors. 


Peoples Choice Award

Given to the favourite film of the festival, as voted by the audience.

  • Films that are a representation of Pasifika people, culture and stories

  • Films of any genre will be accepted (drama, doco, animation)

  • Short films should be no longer than 30 mins

  • Feature length films should be between 50 and 120 mins

  • Documentary films can be short or feature length

  • One of the key creatives must be of Pacific background. This includes writers, producers, directors and leading cast members

  • All films submitted in a language other than English must be subtitled 

  • Works in progress are accepted and must be completed at festival time
